How to change a Craftsman Miter Saw Blade
Changing the blade on a miter saw is not as difficult as many think. However, it requires some knowledge of the tool and the focus on this task. It is important to ensure that you use the right size sheet.
Step 1 - Unplug the saw and lock the power cord. Locking the power cord will ensure that no one accidentally plug the saw while you're changing the blade.
Step 2 - Locate and activate the motor block. This button is located at the junction between the motor housing and the upper blade guard. Activate the lock by pressing the button and rotate the blade until it stops.
Step 3 - With a wrench, turn the blade bolt to the right (clockwise) to loosen. Remember turning the screw on the left to the left (counterclockwise) will tighten the screw.
Step 4 - Remove the blade screw and washer. Move the disc protector and remove the blade.
Step 5 - Place the new sheet in the correct location. Check that the rotation of the blade is right for the saw. The tips of the teeth should be facing downward.
Step 6 - Replace the blade washer and bolt. Using the wrench, turn the screw clockwise to tighten. Do not over tighten.
Step 7 - Unlock cable and test the saw.
Tips & Warnings
Remember that the carbide blades will last longer. Craftsman includes a wrench for this procedure with the saw.
Do not over-tighten the screws, it will tighten further during use and could break. Remember that the blade bolt is reverse-threaded, right (or clockwise) to loosen.
